- So far, Medicare Advantage costs are higher than those of traditional Medicare. Kaiser has sketchy analysis in projecting percentage decline in Medicare Advantage payments, and it remains to be seen how Medicare Advantage will reduce costs long-term.
- Penetration is higher for Medicare Advantage on the coasts than in the middle of the country.
- United Healthcare, Humana, BCBS and Kaiser make up the bulk of Medicare Advantage coverage. This concentration of coverage represents a huge barrier to reducing costs long-term.
