How you can reduce heartburn/acid reflux without drugs [VIDEO]
"Many of us get home late, we eat a big meal, we eat the things we're not supposed to like spicy foods or fatty foods, drink a glass of wine, a coffee, chocolate, lay down on the couch and go to bed an hour later...These are all the things you want to try and avoid."
~Dr. Tara Narula, cardiologist correspondent for CBS News
Quick tips to avoid acid reflux:
- avoid eating dinner after 8 pm and/or eat dinner at least 2-3 hours before bed.
- limit late-night coffee, chocolate, spicy foods, alcohol and smoking.
- elevate your head at night instead of laying flat.
- Remove restrictive clothing such as belts that increase abdominal pressure.
Acid reflux can increase risk of esophageal cancer, swallowing problems, asthma, laryngitis, post-nasal drip, and chronic cough. A few simple changes in lifestyle, namely eating earlier and elevating your head during sleep, can make a big difference.
