What's the escape fire for healthcare? (VIDEO)

The new documentary, "Escape Fire: The Fight to Rescue American Healthcare," is putting America's broken system front and center right before the election, exposing the forces that are resisting change (e.g. drug companies, insurers) and issuing a call for drastic action—the title is poignant, as an escape fire is one that is purposefully lit to destroy all vegetation in its path in order to provide a last-ditch route to survival.

Exploding healthcare costs, misguided provider incentives, and poor patient outcomes all point to the need for an escape fire. According to journalist Shannon Brownlee, who is featured in the film, "30,000 Medicare recipients die each year from care they don't need.  This is the equivalent of a jumbo jet crashing every week.  If the aviation industry killed as many people, we would be up in arms."

The trailer is inviting, and hopefully the filmmakers will ignite the fire they are looking for...
